Hickey's in town. He's leaning against the wall of the community center, trying to hide from everybody else, enjoying a cigarette. Because he's mad. He's tense. There's so many people in this town, they're all so aggravating, and he's just so fucking hungry. Hickey feels like if he runs into anybody, if anybody crosses him, he'll just haul off and hit them. And on the one hand, the people here deserve it. He told them, he was always preparing for when the worst would happen, but did people listen? No. They wanted to play nice with those people in the woods, they wanted to do cute things like play government and not focus on bare survival. If they die, they deserve it.
But he also told Billy that he'd try not to get into any fights. But again, he desperately wants to.
Hickey doesn't clock Crozier approaching. He's too lost in his own thoughts, his own hunger, and his own barely tamped down anger as he finishes off his cigarette and tries to avoid everybody else here.
