While the question and its answer itself isn’t anything shocking to Raju the fact that Francis asks it at all grabs his attention, and he starts watching Francis instead. It isn’t as if Francis can’t show interest in anything outside of the pain, or that he hasn’t, but it’s been… more rare in these awful past few days, and Raju watches him intently to see whether that interest will survive her explanation, and the stitching. It might give Francis something else to think about, if nothing else.
