As Sveta works on the stitching, Hickey bites down on the rag hard. He can feel his eyes water, the pain is absolutely ridiculous, but he still holds on. He can still hold through this. Even now, even with two people in the privacy of his own home, he doesn't want to show any weaknesses. So Hickey doesn't cry out in pain. But based on how tightly he's gripping the chair and the tears spring up at the corner of his eyes, he is in a lot of pain.
