[ Billy does take the hand. Peter may notice that Billy's hand is very hot. Hotter than any regular person's hand should be. It might even be kind of painful to the touch, but it doesn't last long anyway, since Billy scrambles to get up as soon as possible and then immediately lets go of Peter's hand.
(He isn't sure if he'd do this same thing for Peter, and something about that makes him feel guilty, but-- maybe what he can do in return is make sure he isn't getting Peter hurt here by being a liability in this situation. By making sure he's at least up on his own feet, and not holding the other's hand when Peter may need that.)
