ALONE

Five might not expect anyone to notice… but someone did. ZOEY did. She might be bereft of her powers, but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s a stubbornly perceptive young woman even on the worst of days. She pays attention to the details. To the little things. And she noticed. Noticed that he was a little less around, a little less available.

So when she realises that he wasn’t around at ALL, realised that he was missing, she doesn’t need to be a seer to get a very bad feeling about the whole thing. With the whispers in her own ear… yes. She has a very bad feeling indeed. (And she looked certifiable more than once, with a low, almost feral hissed “you will never be rid of me” to something that no one else can hear.)

Which is why she grabs a blanket and a warm coat – it’ll swim on him, but it doesn’t matter, it’ll keep him warm – and she heads out. Searching for him. She heads towards places that would be very good places for someone to send themselves into the Dark, to start. Hoping she’s wrong. But hoping she’s not to late, if she isn’t.

Zoey doesn’t relax until she finds him, catches the familiar figure sitting in the snow along the edges of a shallow pool of icy water. “Marco,” she says, echoing that first meeting of theirs as a way of announcing her presence (because she doesn't think it'd be a good idea to startle him on a GOOD day, let alone a day such as this), ignoring the fervent whispers in her ear that she’s a failure, that she’ll never be able to save him, that she’ll never be able to save anyone. That she’s worthless without her powers.
