It's not even like Max really was asking anyone to do it, let alone asking him directly, but.. it's just in Bigby's nature to take on this kind of responsibility, wanting to keep people safe, even when he'll never admit to it out loud.
It helps that in this case he doesn't just want to keep the town safe, but the wolves too. If they let things continue like this, some people in town will definitely murder absolutely all the wolves in the vicinity before the attacks stop. ]
