That is not a question Max expected, though she supposes it isn't entirely out of left field, not when there are so many strange things in this place. She pauses when she's addressed, laying a hand on Maurice's head in both a reassurance to Huaisang that he's safe, and to indicate to Maurice that he should stop, too.
"He is not a wolf." Answering that part first and quickly, to avoid any uncessary fear. "And I'm real, or I was last I checked."
Her smile is friendly, a little amused at her own joke, trying to add more reassurance that she's another person who's been dragged here, not something sinister.
"My name is Max, and this is Maurice. He's a dog, and despite his size, I promise you have nothing to fear, he's a sweetheart." To Maurice, she murmurs a quiet sit and he does as he's told, his focus on Max rather than Huaisang. She had spent some time training him to recognize fearful humans and how to respond in those situations, so he won't pay much mind to Huaisang unless Max tells him to.
