He quietly stares at the other for a moment, but then closes his eyes for a moment, exhaling a deep breath before opening them again.

".. alright."

Billy seems to accept the story, at the very least. Hickey doesn't seem like he's lying, and it feels a little bit less like the other is actively hiding something from him if this apparently is the real reason behind everything. As strange of a reason as it is.

"I don't think I will ever fully understand the mechanisms of your mind." Can he sometimes figure out more easily than others what's going on up there by now? Yes. But some parts of it truly just are a mystery - like this one, apparently. "But it did seem like Crozier was hoping it would make me leave you." Judging by the emphasis the man put on asking Hickey about this back during the meeting.
