"This place isn't worse," he says. "I can't imagine a worse place than the one I came from. Even if this place is shitty and weird, it's just…different. Not worse."

He means that wholeheartedly, though he has yet to truly experience this world's horrors. Even then, he can't fathom changing his mind.

He shrugs at the question.

"I didn't know if I was going to stay," he said. "I tried to figure out if someone else lived here, but no one does. Then I kind of forgot about it for awhile."

He says that all matter-of-fact, but as he talks, he gains some awareness that maybe it was a stupid way to act. This whole living in a town like a semi-normal person again is too strange and new to him.

"I'll clean it up," he says. "Oh. Maybe I should get some gloves, since I don't heal from cuts right away."

He might have learned this the hard way.

"Whatever I need to do to help fix the window, I will, but you might have to tell me how."
