It's been busy, but now that things are calming down, Tom springs into action. He's been meaning to have this conversation for a while, though he's sure it's futile. Things like this almost always are, and quite oftentimes things like this are what Tom dislikes out of everything, but that doesn't mean he can ignore it. Not here. Not where everyone's so cut off from the lake--it makes things worse.

If he's going to have a chat, though, he's going to do it traditional way. He wanders into Scratch's cabin easily, shifting between his and Alan and Darling's whenever the mood suits him and bringing all of them whatever fish he can catch. After setting this morning's lot down he builds a fire. By the time he's done his puttering about the sauna is nice and warm, which means Scratch is getting a little visit.

"Scratch. Do take a break from being madly in love with Alan for a while--the sauna is warm and the snow is cold. Humour me, hmmm?"

Scratch has been miserable the last few days. He's grown accustomed to the slowly healing spot in his thigh where he got shot, which, he has to admit, is probably not growing infected thanks to Alan's intervention to help fix up the shoddy job he'd done on his own. But he's been haunting his cabin with his gloomy disposition, filling his time with reading or throwing knives at the wall or squinting at Alan across the street.

He doesn't even pay any attention to Tom's arrival until he's spoken to, at which point his turns his head to look at the Finn with a humourless expression.

"I can't say I noticed the cold."

"Then humour me," Tom insists, and leans over to grab at Scratch's hand to urge him upwards.

"The sooner you get in the sooner I'll shut up and go visit Darling, you little devil. And you can mope around in peace. Sound good?"

He knows that it's either suffer Tom being absolutely annoying or just go sit in the sauna for five minutes. It's a small price to pay for some peace and quiet. Not that he doesn't like when Tom comes around, he's not a loud or rude housemate, but Scratch isn't in the mood for company right now.

Scratch lets out a huff of breath as he gets up, making his way towards the sauna.

There's glee in his smile, and while he doesn't press with words it's very obvious he feels like he's won this conversation. He's already peeling off his clothing, not bothering to wait, talking as he does so. His shirt is carelessly flung to the side.

"Serious conversation is always better with a little steam."

[obscurissime]

"Is that what we're having, Tom? A serious conversation?"

Scratch doesn't believe that Tom Zane is capable of anything serious, and he's immediately suspicious of what Tom might even consider a serious conversation. All the same, he strips down, stepping into the small sauna and taking a seat.

He might not feel the cold these days, but the sauna is nice.

"I'm a very serious person," Tom says gravely, even though there's a lift of a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He is. He isn't. He can be. He's very serious when it comes to Barbara. He's also very serious when it comes to Alan. And another...

"I'd like to talk to you about him."

Tom perches on the top-most corner, tilting his head up, relaxing despite the gravity of it all.
