Arthur certainly tries to stay awake for as long as he can. But John passed out hard, he's the warmest he's been in weeks surrounded by his bulk, and his strange body is pleasantly silky to the touch.

So it's sooner than he was trying, but longer than he expected, for him to put the book to one side, tug the blanket up over his shoulders, and curl up over John to fall asleep himself.
