When the creature opens its mouth Levi fires again, into the open mouth. It doesn't stop the initial breath attack, but it does shift the snake's attention and cause it to rear back, perhaps saving Rorschach from some of the breath.

Levi lines up another shot and fires, but the snake closes its mouth seconds before the bullet hits.

"Rorschach! What's wrong?!"
