so fill to me the parting glass
Who: Edward Kenway and you!
What: Edward’s going on a trip! he’s expecting to come back, but just in case.
When: pre-Darkwalker.
Where: All around Milton, we’re doing a little goodbye tour!
Content Warnings: blanket Assassin’s Creed warnings.
[He needs to find what’s out there.
Yeah, it won’t be easy. Edward’s not sure he’ll be coming back—he hopes so, with all his heart, but he knows he might not. He debates with himself for a long while over what to bring and what to leave behind, and eventually he sighs and starts going around the town, bundled up for the cold and knocking on the doors of those he knows and cares about, even those he’s only spoken with once or twice, and asking them to come to the community center. He’s been here since the start, after all.
For those who had to deal with him when he was amnesiac, he has one thing to say to start this whole speech off:] I’m sorry for how I acted, toward some of you. That was unworthy of me. [He gestures to a rather large basket full of useful things.] Will you consider this a peace offering?
[He pauses to let that sink in, then, he says this:]
I mean to head out soon, and to find what lies beyond this town. I should come back soon, with information to give, but in case I don’t…I didn’t want to leave without a goodbye. Or a last dinner with what little civilization there is in this place. [A small, roguish smile. Those who saw the pirate might recognize it now.] Will you indulge this old, and former, pirate his last fancy?
[Oh shit, he really is leaving.
Afterward, he’ll be sticking around to talk to his close friends, and pass them a few things. But if you want, you can catch him before he goes—he’s happy to help, one last time.]

She knows so many people who disappeared and didn't come back. Is this what Thomas did? Did he go off into the wilds, without saying a word? Did he do it just so she wouldn't follow him, like she did the last time? She didn't even get to say goodbye.
She doesn't want to say goodbye, but she knows if she doesn't, she might not get another chance to. ]
I wish you didn't have to go. [ Her voice is quiet, and she does manage a smile even if it's a sad one. ] But... I guess an adventure out into the unknown's too big of a thing to give up for a ex-pirate, right?
[ It feels fitting, in a way. Doesn't it? ]
I could— I don't know how you feel about this sorta stuff, but— if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to pray for you? Would that be okay?

Aye. I’ve never been able to turn down a chance for adventure when it landed in my lap. [It’s very fitting.] Still…I’ve gone without saying goodbye, many times in the past. I didn’t want to do that to any of you, here.
[Maybe that’s selfish, but he wants, just once, to be remembered.]
…I would like that. [He doesn’t believe in a benevolent god, personally, if one even exists at all. But if nothing is true and everything is permitted, there’s no harm in letting her pray for him. At the very least, he’ll know she wishes him well.] Oh, here—I drew up a map or two of Milton, and I’d like you to have one.
[And he gives her a hand-drawn and carefully-labeled map, with little annotations of major landmarks and locations.]
So you’ll always be able to find your way.
[He pauses. Then:] I’ve a request. It’ll sound a selfish one, I know, but—will you write of me? In a diary, or a book, anywhere. I—I’d like to know that I was remembered, that I left a mark here in town, should I not return.
