late month, milton (reishi) - for kostya (sputnik)
[ Later in the month, it's Dogmeat that comes to Konstantin; there's a worrisome slink in the animal's posture, and a clear indication that he wants to be followed between low, airy whines and skittish pacing — that will escalate to attempts to push or pull the man in the right direction if he isn't responsive enough.
Ultimately, the dog leads him to the same cabin on the edge of town that Tobi had holed up in previously, where he'd been experimenting with the chanterelles. It's different, this time. The snow leading up to the open door is roughly displaced in a way that suggests something might've been dragged through it, and the interior is cold and dark. Its makeshift traps apparently haphazardly dismantled or simply left where they lay.
If he enters, he'll find Tobi, though the boy is capable of being frightfully still and quiet when he needs to be; he's got his back in the smallest corner he could find, one that leaves him wedged between the bed and a chest of drawers. A hand in his jacket, tense with a readiness to act. And he is listening very. fucking. intently. ]
no subject
The man's body tenses, and he's stepping quickly but carefully up onto the porch. Though he's not a small man by any means, Konstantin knows how to move his body to be quiet when he needs to be, muscles locked in the right way, footsteps cautious. He crouches down just slightly, readying himself as he looks around the darkness of the cabin, enough illuminated by the open door that he can at least see what lurks in most of the shadows. A quick glance around reveals no intruder that he can see, no immediate sign of danger, but... something's not right. Briefly, he thinks to the fact he has no weapon on his person, but just as briefly he dismisses any thought of leaving to fetch one. He's not leaving. Not until he finds Tobi.
It doesn't take long to spot him, though the sight catches Konstantin off-guard. The boy, huddled up in a corner, unmoving and strange. The cosmonaut doesn't hesitate to move towards him, already crouching down further, knees bending as he nears the floor. His voice drops in volume by instinct, lowering almost to a whispered hush. ]
Tobi....! What's happened?
