"Many times," he nods, holding his hand out to take his notebook back. "Sometimes the novelty is enough to get people through those long months, sometimes not. It's about establishing a routine despite the sunlight, just as you did during the darkness."

“I think we’re above the Arctic Circle, so we have until June, the solstice to be exact.”
But their brains will have to adapt, and it will be difficult. Challenging.
“How have you been, lad?”
no subject
Except for getting through the mines themselves, but the path was opened now so it wasn't an issue anymore.
"What about you?"
no subject
“Made it through the mines myself after you and the others paved the way. Had a look around. That dam looks interesting, as do the train tracks.”
Crozier tucks his notebook into his parka. “A lot of people made the move over there. What made you decide not to stay Lakeside?”

He inclines his head with a smile. "My thoughts exactly. I'm not quite ready to go back and forth. Seems as though it'll make communication more difficult between all of us."

Knowing this place, it was only a matter of time before something terrible happened. And if that happened on only one side of the mountain warning or getting help from the other might take a bit.

It's yet again another thought that's crossed Crozier's mind before. They have ways of communicating with each other, the community board, the person-to-person announcements and town halls, but nothing that would do any good in case of emergency.
"Running back and forth..." he mutters thoughtfully. "There are people here who run faster now, don't they?"

Oh? He hadn’t realized. People had been so quiet about all these strange occurrences — well, some people. Hickey hardly counts, he doesn’t respond to anything appropriately.
“If it makes you ravenous best to not overdo it, but it could be helpful in case of emergency. Do you know of any others?”

He knows of someone who can control fire - well. Who can start fires, the control part is difficult at times, but the point still remains. He knows about a few people who've been given certain abilities, and he wonders if that's not somehow part of the grand plan.
If there is a grand plan.
"I suppose we can just keep an eye out, mn?"

On the contrary, he thinks it matters. He thinks that people should make it known now, if not for others then for themselves. There are people who can defend them all now, people who can run long distances, people who can communicated with just a single thought. It's a chance at survival.
But he doesn't think either one of them want to debate this at the current moment. "Do you want to learn how to take the measurements?"

“No need to apologize,” he replies, “let’s start by going over the basics. We’re measuring the amount of daylight by tracking the time for sunrise and sunset. I’m still trying to ascertain how to measure longitude, but I can roughly calculate the latitude of the sun’s position in the sky.”

He tries not to overwhelm the young man, pausing every so often to give him a chance to ask questions, but decides to end the lesson before Levi's head explodes. "You could meet me back here at sunset. I'll show you how to measure with Polaris."

Crozier smiles, one that finally reaches his eyes. “Then I’ll see you in a few hours.”

“Back here. It’s clear of the trees, it’ll give us a good vantage point.”
