She blushes a little at the swear and then nods. "A general store. Out here. Is it - is he trading?" she wonders.

Become friends with Hickey and you'll hear way worse swears than 'prick.' But Hickey nods before continuing,

"He found some cigarettes. I traded some pelts and wood for them. It's a fair bargain, which says a lot about the man considering our personal grievances."

Louis sucks, but he doesn't let that get in the way of business.

Pelts and wood.

She glances out the window. There really isn't much that she has in the way of trading. Sveta doesn't have the survival skills for anything out here like hunting or trapping. She's a city girl!

"Well, I will keep that in mind," she mutters, sipping at her coffee.

Hickey's not an idiot. He can pick up on Sveta's hesitation, on the fact that she seems very out of place here. He takes a sip of his coffee, thinking things over, before deciding,

"If you run out of food or wood? Stop by mine. I'll make sure you're fed."

The more people he can sway to his side, the better.

She seems more than a little relieved by that. "Truly? Thank you." It's one less thing to worry about.

"I can - well, if you ever need medical help, I will give you anything I can."

Medical help! Hickey will absolutely take that offer and cling to it like a drowning man clings to a life raft. Because while it would be funny to make Goodsir cling to his morals and his professional convictions to try and help out Hickey, he knows he's living on borrowed time. Eventually, the man'll snap. Eventually, he'll let his anger get the better of him.

"I'll keep that in mind," Hickey says, with a little nod. "This place can be a bit ridiculous at times. I'm sure I'll run into a wild animal or that queer fog sooner rather than later."

"Oh, I don't like that fog," she confesses. "Stay away from it."

"I don't either," Hickey admits, with a little frown. "It feels...odd. Like something bad'll happen if I'm caught inside it."

"It shouldn't be green," she admits softly. "I don't know why it's green. And it - moves. It moves strangely, like it's thinking." She sighs. "I sound absolutely mad, don't I?"

He shakes his head. "I've dealt with stranger things in my time."

Game suddenly disappearing. A bear that's a god that can also think.

"Makes you wonder if it's not thinking, but something else is controlling it. The fog doesn't choose where to go, someone tells it."

So has she, but she doesn't say it.

"Controls it?" she frowns. "I don't like how that sounds, either."

"Agreed," he says, with a nod. "But 's not like we can do anything, can we. Not unless we find what's doing the job."

The Darkwalker. It's got to be the Darkwalker. What the hell else could it be?

"I - suppose not. But what could it be? That - that creature that keeps coming for our people? But...why?"

A cursed sort of creature. Sveta understands that.

"Spite?" Hickey shrugs. "Or maybe it just wants us all to bloody leave. I can't guess at the mind of that thing."

She hates the thought of it having a mind. Whims. Wishes. All of those sentient things.

"Leave where? We're trapped here, too!" she mutters, but she knows that isn't actually the point.

"D'you really think a big monstrous god thing is big on thinking rationally?"

Just saying. Seems obvious.

"I don't know," she mutters. "I don't know much about gods."

"Then you better learn quick," he says, with a small shrug. "This place seems to be lousy with them."

Sveta would be one of them, if they wanted to talk about power.

She simply nods, a little distant. She once held the ability to rewrite history in her pocket. In her damn pocket.

"I will take that advice, thank you."

"Course."

Hickey takes another moment to finish off his coffee before giving Sveta a nod as he stands up.

"Suppose I should go ahead and head back," he muses. "Don't want to take up more of your time, after all."

"You're always welcome if I'm here," she explains. "Thank you, Cornelius Hickey."
