It's inevitable. It's going to swallow up everything and twist reality into a new Dark Place. I'm only just one small part of it, a herald of what's to come once I'm free from this place and that stupid writer's fantasies.
no subject
But damn, he's interested ]
Mate, you've got to start from the beginning. What writer?
no subject
The writer doesn't matter. He's a means to an end.
( He takes the knife from his pocket, something someone who lived in this town once used for hunting probably, and crouches down. As he speaks, he starts working on flaying the fat free from the muscles and tendons. )
I'm shaped by the Dark Presence. It made me what I am, an extension of itself. This Darkwalker feels the same.
no subject
But that's still closer than Hickey's ever gotten or ever dealt with. He's still curious. ]
So you were a part of that Dark Presence back in your home. Were you someone before that?
[ can other people get beefed up by said Dark Presence? ]
no subject
( An idea, really, meant to serve another purpose while the aforementioned writer found a way to leave the Dark Place. )
Someone else created me but the Dark Presence made me what I am.
no subject
Is this literal or metaphorical? A thought...sounds like you could get a bit too metaphysical with that.
no subject
( He finishes up his task and, realizing he's not going to be able to just carry slabs of fat, he grabs the jacket that the body used to be wearing. He'll turn it into a way to carry them. )
Let's just say I'm the embodiment of an ancient darkness and this place has stripped me of that.
no subject
Is this guy insane? He might be insane. Embodiment of ancient darkness? Again, what the fuck?
Hickey just stares, not sure if he's amazed or confused before he spots Scratch finishing up and cleaning up and points out, ]
You just want the fat, yeah? So you're not going to start a fight if someone takes the meat.
[ As far as he's concerned, if Scratch calls him out on this, he will happily talk about how the man must not have been in his right mind, what with him saying that he's an embodiment of ancient darkness and all. ]
no subject
As for Hickey's question - )
No, by all means. Someone is welcome to take the meat.
( He knew someone here would be that desperate. It brings him a little thrill of joy. Human nature isn't so boring when you get into the screwed up parts of it. )
no subject
Want any yourself? I don't mind sharing.
[ After all, Scratch did the hard work of killing this man. ]
no subject
I'm good, thanks.
( But he has to ask - )
What's it taste like?
no subject
[ Hickey shrugs a little bit. There's a pause as he decides how best to phrase this. ]
I haven't tasted much pure meat. I'm a city boy. I know that every pastry, every meat pie, they say it's beef but it's cut with horse or cat. So it doesn't taste like any of those. And here, I've had rabbit, fish, deer, the occasional bird. That tastes the same in the sense that it's pure. That you know what you've got. But the flavor's different. This is more...well, just more, I guess."
no subject
( It doesn't make Scratch want to eat it any more than he did before, but it does give him the slightest extra insight into Hickey. But also, poor guy's never experienced the glory of a medium rare steak. And he's probably never going to. )
Is it just you that eats that, or do you have a little dinner party?
no subject
[ Besides, Hickey's not an idiot. He knows that an offer of food can go a long way, especially if you manage to hide it's less than savory origins. And he also knows he needs as many people in his camp as he can muster. ]
no subject
How philanthropic of you. I'll keep it in mind.
( Even if he never takes up the offer. )
If the opportunity comes up again, I'll split the spoils with you.
no subject
[ There's a moment's pause before, ]
I'll keep you in mind should the opportunity come up as well. After all, you'll run out of fat eventually.
[ and this man seems like a very valuable ally. ]
