August Open Log
Who: Levi and Open
What: TDM and other prompts
When: Throughout August
Content Warnings: Levi carries the probable warnings for child soldiers, child abuse and mental illness (PTSD/Depression). Will note anything specific!
Barricades
Through out the month, Levi stations himself at the barricades near the mine entrances. He'll visit the Milton side each day, standing guard and watching the mine entrance for a few hours before moving on. On this side he's more casual, but when he visits the Lakeside entrance he's more on guard. There he stands at attention and keeps an eye on any sign of Forest Talkers. Early in the month he visits that side every few days, but as the month goes on he visits it less. Maybe the Forest Talkers had more to worry about than planning revenge for the kidnapping.
Tea Time
Levi'd been out in the woods for a long time when he came across the old woman. She was strange, but the fire was very welcoming. As was the tea, though his instinct was to mistrust it. She clearly wasn't a Forest Talker, though, and Bill and Methuselah were safe enough. He still didn't trust the old man (he probably never would) but none of them had given the Interlopers anything to hurt them. Mostly, though, he was cold and hot drinks did wonders to warm hm up. He probably should have listened to his instinct, though.
Early afternoon one day a child comes wandering into Milton from the wilds. At 10 years old, Levi's oversized coat is now comically large. He's rolled his pants and sleeves up as much as he can and he's dragging along a rifle that's much too big
for him. Maybe he should have left the rifle behind but there were wolves out in the woods and he was too afraid to leave it. Thankfully he hasn't tried to fire it, since the skinny, somewhat malnourished kid's body wouldn't take the recoil well. He looks like he's been crying and if he spots you he'll start to hurry over and then stop.
Adults could be scary. He doesn't know if they are here or not, but he should be careful. He doesn't know how he got here but what if him doing so was bad? He could get in trouble! Getting in trouble was really bad.
Or maybe you're resting quietly in your cabin and hear someone try the door. People might be around, but a house was better than being out in the snow and maybe if he's really careful he can duck inside for just a few minutes. Hopefully no one is home, but if they were he could be quiet!
Laying next to Meow
Though the larger tremors were obviously an issue, even the smaller ones could be a problem. After this last minor one Levi could be found kneeling on the ground next to a random cabin's porch. He's looking at something under it and speaks in a soft, calm voice. "Its okay Mary. The shaking's over. You can come out now."
From under the porch a small, pitiful meow responds to him.
Wildcard
Or maybe you run into Levi somewhere else. He's still going about his normal daily patrols, hunts and log chopping exercises. He over nights in the community hall like usual, and even makes it out to the basin, hot spring or Lakeside (more than just the mine entrance) at points during the month.
((will match style. If your character has heard of Levi's assassination attempt and wants to confront/praise him over it feel free to do so here.))

Surprisingly enough, nothing nefarious seems to be going on. There's soup and supplies being distributed, low hum of people having conversations, some louder, some more hushed, perhaps even a laugh or a groan here or there breaking through the uniformity of sound.
Levi still doesn't trust it, however. But he does start glancing around, trying to map out a path to the soup that would hopefully let him remain stealthy and grab some without being noticed... though it may not be possible, especially since he'd need a bowl to carry it in the first place.

His stomach does audibly growl, though.

His own mouth is watering a little, too. But he doesn't want to get caught. Who knows what would happen to them? Sure, everyone looks friendly, and over there someone who just came in from the outside is being handed a bowl of soup, but maybe that's exactly how these people are trying to trick them!
...At the same time, it seems like a terrible lot of effort to go through merely to trick a couple of scrawny urchins. But the alternative is that the soup distributors are genuine, and who the hell just gives away food?
no subject
But no one seems to notice the pair, so they don't have to run or fight. He's not really sure why they're still hanging back and watching people. Nobody stands out as being particularly worrisome...couldn't they just eat? Sure the soup might cost something, but who's going to deny two starving, freezing kids? They can always skip out on the check or something.
He looked back to his companion and whispers, "W-what do you think?"
no subject
"I don't..." He chews on his lip a little. "I don't know. I don't think they're doing anything bad. But there has to be a catch, right?"
He's thinking similar to Levi; perhaps there is a charge of coin to be allowed in here, or to get soup... but if that's the case the worst they can do is get thrown out. Then they can just sneak back in and steal something, right? They might get beaten up if they don't pay upfront, though. Which means...
"I'll go first," he decides. "Wait for my signal."
And then, after a moment of hesitation, he strolls toward the soup pots. It's fine, he tells himself. He can take some hits. He's done it before. And if that happens, the other boy will have time to escape.

It's just a minute or two and he's standing in front of the huge pot, and suddenly feels like he's forgotten how to speak. Luckily, the kindly looking older lady on the other side of the table seems to read his thoughts from the way he stares at the soup so intently it could burn a hole in the pot, and so she takes another bowl from the pile and scoops soup into it, then holds it out. Levi takes it, carefully, lifts it to smell it, then stares at the lady again.
"Is that all?" he finally blurts, as if expecting her to demand payment.
She looks a bit surprised, but smiles and tells him that he can come back for seconds once he finishes this bowl.
"No, I mean... am I supposed to do anything else?"
She blinks, confused. If he wants to help with handing out the soup or washing bowls he's welcome to it, she says, but it's not expected of someone so young.
Levi nods and takes a step away... looks around, then takes a few more. Nothing is happening, no one is coming after him or saying anything. He looks back at where he's left the other boy, trying to find his eyes. Once he does, he nods, and slightly lifts the bowl he's received, as if to assure him that the mission was a success.
Then he goes to sit down at whatever spot seems easy to run away from if necessary. It may seem safe now, but he's not about to stop being careful.

He barely looks at the adults as they serve him and he gives his sheepish thank you. He steps away and waits a few moments so it doesn't seem like anyone is paying attention to him anymore. Once it seems safe, he scurries back over to the other boy. "T-they didn't ask for anything! It might be really free!"
Or a more elaborate trap, but he's really hungry right now.
no subject
So while he does roll his eyes a little, he also does scoot over on the bench, making room for the other boy to sit with his back to the wall as well if he wishes.
"It seems so," he says, muffled by bread, having not yet developed any particularity about table manners, the Underground rules of eat it before someone snatches it the ruling force at the moment. "Or at least they want us to think that, but--" He shovels some soup into his mouth, too, and chews for a moment before swallowing. "I even asked about it 'nd they didn't want anything."
no subject
"Really?" That could still be a lie, but it seems less likely. "I-is it good?"
He's yet to work up the nerve to try it.
no subject
"Yeah!" Levi sounds excited and spoons more food into his mouth. It doesn't occur to him to worry about poison; not an intentional one at least. "I can't taste any mold or nothin'."
The bar really is on the ground for this boy.
no subject
"It is really good! And nice and warm."
no subject
Instead, he's enjoying this moment of having a decent, warm meal because who knows when he can get any again -- although, if the woman hadn't lied, it may be as simple as walking up to the table again and asking for more.
He hums his agreement to the other boy and continues devouring his own food. Once his hunger is mostly abated, he finally slows down a bit, deciding to savor those last few bites, and glances at his companion again.
"They said we could help," he offers in a bit of a mutter, almost like he's embarrassed to bring it up. "Wash plates or hand out stew. If we want."
It's not something he's had the luxury to even contemplate before, but right now, he's kind of tempted by the idea to do something good for once. Isn't that wild? The Ripper's kid, helping people instead of killing and stealing. Maybe his mother would be less sad if she could see that.
no subject
He's had kindness in his life, so he doesn't distrust all adults, but groups of them were still scary.
wrapping up soon?
That is, however, a very small percentage of people, and he thinks it's better to be too careful than to be dead or sold or made into pig feed.
"Yeah... I think so," he just says. He's still weirded out by it, but maybe things would be okay.
sounds good
no subject
He hopes he doesn't come to regret it.
For now, though, he can finish his food... maybe get some more, and then go browse the pile of clothes they apparently also have here and just hand out to anyone who asks, for something more suitably warm for the weather.
And then, perhaps, he'll see about giving back.
wrap?
