“Yeah, we need to make it to the port first. See if anyone else made it out.” She doesn't have high hopes for the tower diary guy but it would be nice.

He nods, "That state of things there should give us some insight. Though we might want to send...something out onto the ocean before going ourselves."

“Yeah, I agree. I don't even know what ocean that’s supposed to be. Pacific?” It can make a difference!

He shrugs. Oceans were all basically the same, right? Its not like he ever expected to be on or even see one. "I'm more worried about something like the beast in the lake being in there. There could be tons of them in that much water."

“I wonder if the camp office has any other folklore stuff.” Chloe doesn't know enough about early cultures in this area to know if they'd believed in sea monsters, though if they'd used it for much of anything the odds are good. “Or the library maybe. That thing in the lake was a local legend.”

"Yeah, it did have stuff on the lake monster. If it doesn't maybe somewhere closer to shore or whatever port they have will. I can look around in the library too, I haven't tried to look up something like that before."

“Maybe. Might be a museum or cultural centre around somewhere too, if we can get past Lakeside.”

Silverpoint seems like a good candidate for that.

"Oh yeah, a bigger city or a port would be a good place for that. This place was at least sort of for tourists, so I bet they had something."

“Yeah. We haven't seen an airport and I'm assuming the train is just for the mine so they must have all come in through the port.”

"If it's a small island it might just be ships, too. But either way we haven't gotten that far out yet."

[desperate_times_right]

“Honestly I'd assume they'd have goods delivered by helicopter but I haven't seen a place for one to land yet.” She shrugs. “Maybe they used a float plane.”

[solitarysoul]

"Helicopters?" Does he know that word? Its vaguely familiar but he can't place it. Helicopters weren't in much use back where he came from.

“It's like a plane, kind of, but the rotor is on top so it can take off straight up. They don't need runways like planes do.” Hopefully he knows what a plane is.

"I think I've heard of that...but they, uh, they don't work very well. I guess yours are different."

“They're not always great in strong winds, but they have their uses.”

Not so great when the pilot gets shot, but then, what vehicle is?

"I guess if they can really take off and land without a runway they would be. Maybe they were still experimenting with them in my time."

[desperate_times_right]

“Yeah, that's the biggest benefit. They can land and take off from a really small area, like a rooftop if it's flat.”

"Yeah, that does sound really useful. It'd be a good way to get stuff to and from an island like this if its out of the way."

“Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.” Imagine trying to build a runway on any of what they've seen of this island so far. “Maybe there's a landing pad by the port.”

"That'd make sense. Somewhere they can store stuff before sending it out or in or whatever. I don't really know how people handle that."

“Yeah, it's hard to know what the supply chain looked like, the way things are now. Especially if there really were quakes before.” She’d read that journal in the tower.

"Those kinda just started, didn't they? I wonder if it's like an every summer thing or something special because of...you know, everything."

Look he doesn't know how earthquakes work that makes sense to him.

“I don't think they'd have built those lookout towers so flimsy if quakes were common.” Though who knows? “If we’re on the west coast though they can be more common there.”

"That's a good point...I guess they're probably related to whatever fucked over this world, then.

"There are more quakes in the west?"

[desperate_times_right]

“Yeah. There's a big fault off the coast, I think.” Another of those things that she only sort of knows about.
