Chloe had wondered whether to go through with the harvest party once Lalo had disappeared, but as they say, the show must go on. There's still a lot worth celebrating, and people need something hopeful after the mess last month. Luckily her house had made it through everything all right.

The poster had said to wear a costume, so she's hoping to see a lot of those, and she’d recruited some people to help her put together the menu exactly to Lalo’s specifications, so unfortunately no one is safe from British Potatoes. There are even candles for the birthday cake.

Chloe herself is dressed as a sexy lumberjack, with one of Lalo’s old flannels tied in a knot under her breasts and denim cutoffs made from the jeans Kostya had gotten blood on (shh). She's got a fire roaring, because otherwise she’d freeze.

[ Peter doesn't startle at the sudden hand on his shoulder or being held out to be looked at. He actually smiles, kind of pleased that the costume was noticed.

He looks down at himself and then up at Casper. ]

The lab coat isn't really a lab coat I don't think. Might have been a robe but it was the closest I could find. Goggles were up at one of the facilities and the gloves were in someone's kitchen.

[ and the hair? ]

The hair was all me and too long spent in front of a mirror.

I'll have to keep an eye out, then. I have the one I came with, but it's always good to have a spare, you know? I didn't have the hair, though. Well -- some late nights at the lab and a lot of running my fingers through it, who can say. But it was a lot longer back then. It tends to curl though, so I started keeping it short when I got older.

Not that you need the back story on my hair, sorry. [He laughs, a little awkward and nervous, but warm. Peter gets turned slowly so Casper can get a proper look, that same pleased smile on his face.]

No, this is great. Sorry, um. Dr. Casper Darling. [Casper finally lets the boy go and offers a hand to greet him properly.] From New York, in America, on Earth. Uh... 2019, last I checked? But then I was in another dimension for two years, so who can say.

I was a scientist, before I came here. Professionally, I mean, I still am a scientist, you never really stop.

[ He's kind of awestruck in that he's meeting an actual scientist. He'd met plenty of them when he'd been back home but this is a different kind of interested. A scientist from a different place, a different world, a different...dimension, even?

That's so cool. ]

I'm from New York too. [ Small world. ] It was 2014, then. Hey, I kind of like the backstory on the hair. I don't have any interesting story about mine besides that it just kind of...does what it wants.

[ And he just let's it happen. ]

Another dimension? [ He has to ask. ]

Oh right, well. One moment I was in my office building, and the next I was in sort of an endless black void. After a while of trying to reach out, trying to communicate, I met the most interesting man. An artist -- he told me where we were.

And then I was here! Which has honestly been so interesting, meeting all these people from these different universes. Different places, different times. Different realities.

[He gestures as he talks, wide and expressive. Excited to discuss his work away from where he might face consequences for doing so.]

Yeah, that story's a lot more exciting than mine. No voids, no endless black, no interesting men.

[ It's interesting enough that Peter kind of wants to know more about the void and his other possible adventures. ]

But, I agree. It's been...kind of overwhelming. To know that so many other places and people exist when I didn't think that possible.

Oh but it is! It absolutely is. I wrote my dissertation on it, in fact. And a book, though that wasn't widely circulated due to the NDAs I signed at work. But! Neither here nor ther.

The point is, is that almost all my work has been about multiverse theory. And -- and practice! How to get from one dimension to another. [Apologies, Peter, you're getting taken by the arm and led to the nearest place to sit, so that Darling can lecture you further.]

[ And Peter is absolutely not complaining about getting to hear more about this. He's actually excited since it's been awhile since he's gotten to learn from a scientist that didn't then try and kill him. ]

I've never really actively studied the multiverse theory. I know it's out there and I definitely believe in it but I don't know a lot about it or even how to go from one place to another. I still have no idea how I got here.

[ But that seems to be pretty common around here. ]
