Chloe had wondered whether to go through with the harvest party once Lalo had disappeared, but as they say, the show must go on. There's still a lot worth celebrating, and people need something hopeful after the mess last month. Luckily her house had made it through everything all right.

The poster had said to wear a costume, so she's hoping to see a lot of those, and she’d recruited some people to help her put together the menu exactly to Lalo’s specifications, so unfortunately no one is safe from British Potatoes. There are even candles for the birthday cake.

Chloe herself is dressed as a sexy lumberjack, with one of Lalo’s old flannels tied in a knot under her breasts and denim cutoffs made from the jeans Kostya had gotten blood on (shh). She's got a fire roaring, because otherwise she’d freeze.

Chloe can't help but smile at the way this kid is eyeing the table. Who says teenage boys don't like healthy food?

“I can pack up a to-go box for you at the end of the night if there's anything left,” she offers.

"Oh, that'd be great. ...its so weird to be so happy about something like that," he laughs. "But I guess we've got to take anything we can get here."

“God, right?” Chloe laughs. “I can't remember the last time I had a vegetable that wasn't either canned or rehydrated. You guys are lucky I didn't eat all the carrots while I was picking them.”

"That must have taken superhuman willpower." He laughs a bit. "You should be proud, though. You put a lot of work into it." Well he and others helped but it was her baby.

“Thanks,” Chloe says, and it's weird to be sincere but she's doing it. “It's something I can actually do, you know? When the sun went out I felt so helpless.”

"Yeah...I've been smoking almost all of what I bring in when out hunting to preserve it. I don't want to deal with that again."

“That's a good idea.” It's nice to know other people she can trust are looking out for the group. “Thanks for doing that.”

[solitarysoul]

"No problem. I bring in enough meat that I was planning on keeping it as a community store or something. I don't want to see another time where we're almost starving. It certainly didn't help with everything else going on."

“Yeah. I think it's good to have someone like you involved because you stay pretty neutral. I don't think I’d feel safe going to the hall after the Midsummer nonsense.”

"I just don't want to fight with anyone. I've done too much of it in my life so far. And I don't want to see anyone die here, not of something we could prevent like starving." Well, some people he'd probably be less sad if they died, but Levi hadn't really made any enemies here.

“Yeah, I think we’ve all seen more than enough preventable death here, huh?” People die pretty much every month. “You’re doing good work.”

"...Yeah. I try. Thanks." Well, this has got depressing. "So, we need to go back to carrying for these things tomorrow, huh?"

“Yeah…” Chloe looks down, mock dejected. “A farmer’s work is never done, apparently!”

"Eh...I don't mind as much. It's not like we have much to do here. S'why I patrol so much." He honestly has no idea what else he'd do with his time.

That's not really a surprise.

“I've got to admit, the greenhouse project has been doing wonders for my social life.”

She sees way more people every day than she had before.

He chuckles a bit, "Was a bit of an easier place to find you, too."

Chloe snorts. “Well. Everyone knows where I live now. A regular woman about town, I am.”

"I'm betting you have some hiding place when you want to be alone."

“Oh, you know me too well.” Chloe laughs. “It's been years since I've seen so many of the same people day after day.”

"Always good to have somewhere you can get away to.

"I'm used to just having just the same group of people always around."

[desperate_times_right]

“I've got friends I work with back home, but we usually only meet up for the duration of whatever job we're doing, so it's a couple of months, tops.”

"Ah. I was just with my squad most of the time. Or a few of us near by. They rotated us around sometimes." The other reason that new people came in was too depressing to bring up at a party. "But you moved around a lot, right?"

[desperate_times_right]

“Yeah. I move around enough for work that I don't really have a home base.” Also she hates signing contracts and she's broke a lot. “I live with my friends, usually, or in hotels.”

"I have no idea what that would be like...but being stuck in one place like here must be so weird to you."

“It is. I've never… had my own house before, so this is basically my first party I've hosted like this.”
