Once was one time too many! [It had been so embarrassing!!] If an old woman you do not recognize offers you tea, do not accept it.

[ Furiosa's mouth turns up, a wry, amused expression crossing her face. ]

Okay. No journeys with old men and no tea from old women. Any other warnings?

Did anyone tell you about the talismans?

[This is one of the only things Methuselah is good for.]

There are talismans too?

[ Amusement doesn't last long. She groans, but it's a tired sort of resigned noise. Like she's more annoyed than anything. No. No one told her about the talismans. ]

[meadqueen]

Yes. A small stone, carved with a rune and anointed with an interloper’s blood. Methuselah revealed the design to my friend Heartman on their travels together last year. It does not fully block the influence of the Darkwalker, but it does mitigate it.

[imperatour]

[ Okay. Not usually a superstitious type, but Furiosa will be sure to get that design before Randvi leaves. ]

Did Heartman come out of his trip with Methuselah mostly in one piece?

[meadqueen]

[Randvi looks uncomfortable enough that it probably answers the question.]

He had a pre-existing condition which was exacerbated by an illness he picked up on his trip.

[imperatour]

He's dead.

[ Straightforward. Furiosa doesn't soften her blows ever, even the ones with words. ]

[meadqueen]

Yes.

[If she’s willing to be direct about it, Randvi is too.]

Heartman was my friend and he died. He had a weakness in his heart and was never well again after catching pneumonia while travelling with Methuselah. It is why I wished to warn you about him.

[imperatour]

I'm sorry about your friend.

[ Furiosa does a small gesture, holding her palm open in front of her before closing her fingers into a soft fist she draws to her heart. It's meant to be a gesture of reverence to mourn a lost soul. It's obvious enough why Randvi didn't start there, and she's been more than forthcoming with information in the meantime. Furiosa permits the omission. ]

And thank you for warning me.

[ She's not sure warning would've stopped Max. It wouldn't have stopped her either. ]

Is there anything you need? [ Knowledge is valuable, and Furiosa can trade for it. ] Rabbit for you or Ulfrùn. I've got too many now while Max isn't here to eat them.

[Heartman would have liked this woman, she thinks: practical but kind as well.]

I hope that Max remains well.

[Many people do recover. Though Furiosa should probably count herself lucky that Randvi doesn't know that La’an, the first interloper to be killed by the Darkwalker, had travelled with Methuselah just prior.
