Note: I did have Miss Huang on a previous TDM; however, I've apped her in now from a later canonpoint. For that reason, I'll be clean-slating that TDM arrival and bringing her in fresh for new interactions!

[ The girl looks up and over at the man, smile immediately appearing on her face. It's no doubt friendly, but there's something almost too practiced about it. ]

Thank you! Organisation helps us all to be more productive workers.

[ Oh she's definitely normal. ]

Oh. [That makes Sam blink a little. Both the smile and the sentiment feel... odd. Rehearsed, maybe. Or forced?]

Are we... working? I mean we're surviving, but are we supposed to have jobs or something. I retired, far as I know.

[ Retired? The girl looks him over with uncertainty for a moment. She supposes some people living in this town might have... retired (what a terrifying word! She hopes she never stops being at active use for Lumon Industries!) and perhaps now they just live here. Surviving, as he says. ]

Well, I wasn't assigned a specific job when I started my training here, but I figure that means I'm meant to find jobs for myself! [ She answers cheerfully, with a nod. That makes sense; Lumon is still testing her. Making sure she's Wintertide material, that she's taking initiative to find work even when she isn't designated a role. ]

Work shouldn't just feel like survival, [ she adds, maybe sliiiightly missing the point of what he said. ] If it does, then an employee just needs some ways to refresh their motivation!

I don't think we need jobs here. I guess I could keep being a porter, but there aren't a lot of things that need to be delivered, anymore. Besides -- who's paying us? Why work for free? [There were porters who kept on going well past their prime, chasing the high they got from deliveries, but that was a whole other can of worms.

Sam drags a chair over to sit, still watching the girl and her clipboard.] You look like you're good at motivation. I got good reviews, that helped motivate me. [That and the impending apocalypse.]

[ Miss Huang pauses at that, freshly startled by what the man says. Aren't jobs... always needed? And payment isn't something a proud Lumon worker should be most concerned about. ]

The best payment is knowing we've made our company proud, assisted our community, and bettered ourselves, [ she practically recites, using words she's most definitely heard many times before. But there's a thought, as she watches the man pull a chair over and sit down. Maybe he's lost his motivation. Maybe he... wants to quit.

There's an odd pang in her chest as she remembers Dylan G. Remembers the ways she'd failed him. ]

If you got good reviews, that must mean you're a good worker, and that your customers appreciate you! [ She says cheerfully. Maybe she can help motivate this man! ] What kind of things are you used to delivering?

[He almost says some choice words about the Bridges company, but remembers that you're probably not supposed to swear around children. So he shrugs and rubs at his shoulder under his shirt, the memory of carrying a pack making him ache and feel old.]

Whatever people needed. Medicine, sentimental items. Pizza. I think the customer who gave me the best reviews was the guy I brought pizza to, actually. Practically wrote me poems about it.

Oh, you really offered a great service to people! That's a lot of variety! [ The little girl says, praisingly (...not considering that it might come across as somewhat condescending, coming from a literal child.) ]

You could keep doing things like that here. Even if you don't get paid. That's probably what you were brought in to do!
