Ruby Rose December Catchall
Who: Ruby Rose and you!
What: TDM Prompts along with some other stuff.
When: Throughout December
Where: At her house, and outside of Milton
Content Warnings: Violence against dragons, after effects of poison, injury, possibly cave related danger, kitchen related danger.
Red Like Roses
[So it's been about a month since Ruby got here, and she was getting used to the grind of working to survive. It was tough, but she was not a stranger to tough. It made trying to lighten the mood all the more important when she could find the chance.
Which is what the spoils of her scrounging around through vacant houses the last few days had allowed her to do today. She had managed to come across some snowboarding gear in one house that fit her well enough and she was going to use it.
If someone's out and about they might find a few extra bits of gear she had dug out at the base of a hill just outside of town. If they looked up the hill Ruby could be spotted sliding down it at breakneck speed. She was actually pretty good, and didn't have much trouble carving into turns to dodge around trees or brush on her way down.
If she catches sight of someone during her descent she'll raise an arm up and give a quick wave as she turns to approach them.
...Hopefully people don't mind a thrust of snow in their face as she comes to a sharp stop. Oops.]
Fills My Dreams (Misty Falls Cave)
[Ruby wasn't the type to back down from a request or a challenge. Hiking up and exploring an old cave? Count her in. The very next morning she's got a bag packed, and her folded up scythe ready to go on an adventure.
The trip up the hill isn't exactly eventful but her silver eyes are wide with awe as she travels along the frozen river with whoever decided to come along with her.
Once they arrive at the waterfall she lets out a brief sigh as she lets her pack hit the ground in a moment to give her aching shoulders a bit of a reprieve. Then she immediately looks between the half frozen waterfall and her companion with excitement.]
Do you see that!? That is sooooo cool!
[And then she snorts.]
Like literally- Because it's frozen, right?
Descends from Shadows (Serpents Breath)
[Now this? This was more up Ruby's alley. She was a monster hunter by trade back in her own world after all. So she was going to step up not only for the good of the town, but because she could not resist the challenge herself. Sure her scythe was only half working here, and sure, she didn't have the abilities she had back at home, but that just made things more interesting, right?
While it takes her some time she does manage to track the beast down while it's still asleep. She looks to be actually beaming with excitement as draws her scythe and readies it.
Without hesitation she'll rush in and take a swing at a creature while it's none the wiser- but the initial strike glances off it's harder back scales. This is probably going to be tougher than she initially thought.
Anyone care to jump in and help?]
Brings Me To The Place You Rest
[It's a few days after the fight with the Stoor Worm and Ruby is pretty darn wiped. Whether the creature had been slain or managed to get away didn't particularly matter. The important thing is that she managed to get away with her life and limbs still attached.
...A handful of injuries, some wooziness, and a killer fever from getting up close and personal with a poisonous monster were the biggest things she had to worry about now. But she could handle that on her own, right?
Anyone passing by her cabin one day may see smoke billowing out one of the windows followed by a shriek. A few moments later. It's only a small kitchen fire, but a bandaged up Ruby is doing her best to panic and put it out right about now.
She could use a hand.]
Wildcard
[Feel free to hit me up at jjabarrett on plurk or discord to plot something out or feel free to choose your own adventure.]

the place you rest;
Like snow worms, fire and March don't mix at all but for completely different reasons. Panic builds up inside of him, and the moment he hears the shriek the village idiot immediately jumps into action. March to the rescue, barging in to save the young girl. ]
Jesus fucking christ! [ It's hard to take him seriously when his raised voice is more of a wheezy squawk. He's yanking on the nearest piece of heavy fabric he can and immediately starts to try to smother it.
Not fire. Not fucking fire. ]

Except none of that really helped her when she clearly over did it fighting the snow worm dragon thing- Because a wave of exhaustion makes it a whole heck of a lot harder for her to act in time actually do anything about the fire.
She's not quite completely floored but she's hanging onto the table to keep herself on her feet and sweating heavily.
She doesn't know what to make of the squawking screech as he bursts through the door and throws one of the blankets she had stock piled onto the fire.
Thankfully it's not exactly a big fire either- but it would have spread further if not tended to.]
I- uh...
[Don't mind her as she stares dumbfounded and a little embarrassed that this had happened.]
no subject
Jesus-- [ Very articulate. ] Are you okay?!
[ He rounds on her with the air of what can only be described as dad energy, shoulders straight, concern mixed with worry mixed with the tiniest bit of frustration. ]
You coulda burned the whole place down, what happened?!
no subject
I- Well- I think so?
[Yeah. Her voice is a little shaky, it's clear she's not exactly at her best here.]
I just was trying to make some brekky- And- I don't know I just felt really weak all of a sudden.
It kind of comes and goes since I fought the weird worm dragon thing.
red like roses
Brava!
[ He drops his hand to clap it against the other one, then sweeps the residue of clinging snow from his dark coat. ]
no subject
And she'll even do it gracefully with a bow once she gets the bindings off one of her feet.]
Thank you, thank you! I'm here all day- and night- and probably for the foreseeable future.
[Except then she pulls up her goggles and asks.]
But isn't it bravo?
no subject
Only for those of the cruder sex - and one could not mistake you for a boy.
[ A half-truth. Lestat has known many lovely boys who could easily be taken for girls, when outfitted properly. But most young ladies do not care to be compared to their adolescent counterparts in such a way, excepting some of the more exuberant variety. ]
What is this marvellous contraption of yours? I've never seen anything like it.
no subject
Cruder...? Oh you mean boys, right? Yeah, they smell. Without a doubt.
[Ruby didn't necessarily mind and she had plenty of guy friends that she looked up to and vice versa. But that didn't stop her from throwing shade in the slightest. Instead she looks down at the board attached to her feet.]
Oh. This is a snowboard. I'm actually pretty surprised you guys had them here. I guess my world and this aren't too far off?
Either way. You use it to ride down hills- Maybe do some tricks once you get good at them. They're super fun.
...And like way better than skis. I'm not as coordinated when it comes to those.

descends from the shadows
Tracking the thing had been easy enough – just follow the bigass trail it left behind – and yet she still wasn't prepared for the sheer size of it: smooth scales climbing the round walls of its body, the way it takes up the cave, how it smells. The sheer presence of such a large predator sends her hindbrain into hysterics, but – and she can be proud of this – she doesn't freeze up, and she doesn't run.
All she does, as Ruby's scythe glances off those shining scales and a shiver runs through the massive body, is level Peacemaker's muzzle at the spot where the younger girl struck, her finger gentle on the trigger. ]
Come on, baby. Don't embarrass me in front of the teen.
[ No golden glow accompanies her request; Peacemaker is as dead now as it was when she hauled it up out of the well. But it's still a gun, and it can still shoot.
She shoots.
-- and immediately ducks as the bullet ricochets off the scales, zipping back through the air to chip a piece of rock off the cave wall. ]
Shit!
no subject
Okay. So head on attacks were apparently out of the question.]
We might have jumped in on this a little soon!
[And it was awake and aware of what they were doing now, and it slowly starts to turn face them. Swiping it's tail in the process which Ruby just manages to leap over.]
Do you have any other ideas?
no subject
Shoot it in the face?
[ The eye, the mouth; anything softer than the scales would probably work. The problem is, all she can really see right now is a mass of seething, coiling body. ]
Where the hell is its face?
no subject
[Ruby does her best to navigate around the creature. It's hard in the cramped quarters, but thankfully she's quick enough to hop and maneuver around it as it's slithers about.
She takes another swing with her scythe but it bounces off harmlessly. One of the long coils slides along behind her. The end twists around before it's jaw unclenches revealing a set of teeth and fumes that Ruby hasn't quite noticed yet.]

What is that?
no subject
[Ruby smiles sheepishly as she realizes she got him pretty good with the snow. But it immediately brightens when he asks what it is.]
It's fun!
Do you want to give it a try?
no subject
[Does he want to try a new thing? Probably not, he'd probably be shit at it. But if it really is fun...well he had very little to entertain him here.]
What, um, what is it? What do you have to do?
[Other than stand on a board and go downhill.]
no subject
It's called a snowboard. And- I can teach you how to do it. It's a little tricky at first.
[She unstraps the board from her feet and steps off it.]
It requires a lot balance and some strength in your legs and back. But once you get the hang of it it's super fun.

Not that he's actually said any of that out loud. He probably gave some excuse about also heading this way, or something like that. He can't be openly nice, please. He's got a reputation to preserve.
.. though the guy sure feels glad he came along when Ruby speaks up, only to say that. ]
Uh-huh. [ Flatly.
Talk about someone who can't appreciate a good pun! ]
Do you really think this is that much fun?
no subject
But she'd play along with the hard to get act. It reminded her a lot of Weiss or Blake. Except Bigby wasn't quite as fun, but she'd never tell him that.
Still she gives a snort when he doesn't seem to pleased with her pun. Everyone was a critic.]
I mean- It beats getting snowed in at the community center, doesn't it?
And this place is more scenic than a straight up a tundra.
[Her smiles falters just a smidge at that, but she quickly turns around to face the waterfall.]
But who knows- maybe we'll find something super helpful here!
cw: talk of smoking (which is BAD FOR YOU, RUBY!! DON'T DO IT!!)
[ Please. It's been months since he's shown up here, so even though Bigby has been so careful with how much he's smoking, he's definitely already ran out of his original pack of cigarettes he had on him the moment he showed up.
And he definitely needs those things to be able to deal with certain social interactions in this place. Else he might just start throwing people out of windows. ]
.. only way to find out though is to get in there, right? [ He shrugs a little, but then glances back over at the girl. ] Make sure to watch out. The rocks are probably slippery as hell, considering this cold and the water around.
[ Even if most of said water is frozen.. But that's the exact problem!! ]
cw: talk of smoking (TOO LATE! SHE'S PICKED IT UP! WAY TO BE A BAD INFLUENCE))
Ew! Those are going to make you smell funny. You know that, right?
[Look. She's got priorities, and while she can smell a little on him, she wasn't going to make it a thing beyond that. She's mostly teasing.]
Look- Careful is my middle name. It's Ruby "Careful" Rose.
[She says this brimming with confidence as she starts to walk toward the cave. ...And he foot almost slips out from under her on a patch of ice, but she quickly plants it on the ground before she loses balance.]
See!

Fills My Dreams
So here he was, looking at the waterfall. It really was quite nice to look at. He'd never seen anything like it before, living in the city as he had.]
no subject
She eventually realizes that he's looking up at the waterfall and she falls in at his side.]
You know? Things like this, kind of makes you think that this place isn't all that bad, right?
no subject
Never seen anything like it. Never left the city before now.
[Despite the usual lack of emotion in his voice, he clearly found the sight wonderous the way his face was fixedly turned towards the waterfall without looking back at Ruby. This place may have been an icy hellhole but there was still beauty to be found in some corners of it.]

Descends from Shadows
Useless idiots, the lot of these people. She clearly fights with experience and training, but there's something off about her movement. Like a Kryptonian making contact with Kryptonite.
The snake is turning to her and he can see by her expression that she's not ready to dodge.
Which makes this his cue. There's a whistling sound as his batarang flies and then a sickening schlk sound as it sinks itself right in the serpents eye.] Get away from it, now!
[And with a zip he propels himself forward using his grappling hook, landing against the bark of a tree.]
Alright, ugly. [He's talking to the snake, naturally.] I'm right here!
no subject
If anything he looked to be about as old as Oscar was, or she had been around the time she had been accepted to Beacon. She wasn't about to judge someone for being young on the battlefield.
The way he moved around the battlefield reminded him of Blake too- And that was something she could work with.]
Do you're thing, bud!
[She's not sure if the creature understands english or not, but she's not going to take the risk. She's going to back off and put herself into a better position. Whether Damian is looking to attack or distract, she'll get herself ready to go in for a follow up attack.]
