"Guess we're gonna find out," he agrees with a slight nod.

For awhile, he walks along with her, only the crunch of their boots against the snow to break the silence that stretched on between them. He prefers it to idle chit-chat, not particularly a man of many words.

As they go, he takes notes of different potential landmarks to keep in mind to look for as signs of being close to "home" when they're on their way back later. Until they've got more of an idea of how the land sprawls away from the center of the town, they might be the only way people will be able to get a sense of direction at all.

Zoey is as content with silence as she is with conversation, more so, sometimes, so it’s easy to walk along in silence, wit just the crunch of snow beneath their boots and the sound of wind to break it.

She has a journal in hand, making careful notes and sketches as they go; sketching out a quick map to refine later, when she has time. Marking down potential landmarks and their distances. Jotting down observations. If she’s going to make a reliable map of this place she’s going to need all of it.

It's when he realizes she's not just making notes, but actually sketching that he speaks up again. "Do we have a cartographer in our midst?" he perks a brow, glancing over at the book in her hand. It seems to be little more than lines and notes for all he can tell, but if she can make it into a real map, that will be useful.

She huffs a laugh. “Not the professional sort, but I know how make a map well enough to end up with something accurate at the end of it.” It helps that she has a memory that remembers EVERYTHING. (Which turns out to be hers, and not just a side effect of her gift. If it were that, she’d have lost that, too. Good to know. Unexpected, but good to know all the same.) Tapping her journal with a fingertip she adds “I’m hoping to work on a bigger version, once I get all the pieces down.”
